Isiolo Governor on the Spot Over Bloated County Workforce

Isiolo County Governor is under scrutiny after revelations emerged that he has employed a disproportionately high number of staff despite the county's relatively small size. In a county with only 10 Members of County Assembly (MCAs) and 6 County Executive Committee (CEC) members, the governor has reportedly appointed 36 advisors and 31 Chief Officers.

This excessive staffing has significantly inflated the county’s wage bill, pushing it to a staggering 47%. The revelation has sparked concerns over prudent use of public resources, with critics calling the move both unsustainable and unjustifiable.

Senator Moses Otieno Kajwang’ described the situation as “ridiculous,” especially given that the law remains silent on the maximum number of advisors and chief officers a county government can hire. The Senate Public Accounts Committee has vowed to move swiftly to address the loophole and ensure those responsible are held accountable.
