Meru County Secretary Sent on Compulsory Leave as Governor Restructures Administration

Meru County Secretary and Head of Public Service, Mr. Kiambi James Thambura Atheru, has been sent on compulsory leave with immediate effect, in what insiders describe as part of a broader administrative shake-up by newly elected Governor H.E. Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia.

In an official letter issued by the Office of the Governor, the decision was said to be based on a resolution of the County Executive Committee to allow for “further investigations into [Atheru’s] professional conduct and performance.” However, sources close to the county government reveal that the move is politically motivated, aimed at paving the way for the appointment of allies aligned with the new administration.

While Mr. Atheru retains his remuneration and benefits during the leave period, the Governor has swiftly appointed Mr. Domisiano Maranya as the Acting County Secretary and Head of Public Service.

Observers view the replacement as the Governor’s attempt to consolidate control and align the county’s executive wing with his leadership style and agenda.
